Miss Nina loves to put popular children’s books to music. You may have heard her renditions of Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney, This Jazz Man by Karen Ehrhardt or the soon to be recorded and released “How to Dinosaurs Say Goodnight” by Jan Yolen — just to name a few!
Aside from being a great form of entertainment and a new way to read old favorite books (a huge help for teachers) putting books to music is a wonderful tool for literacy. Children who may not have available adults to read to them can be “read to” by a musical version of a book, and other kids who’s learning styles prevent them from being able to quietly sit and read, can reap the benefits of being able to sing and/or dance and move to a book.
Please read about Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences to learn more about the different learning styles among us all.
