As I mention in this video, when I first heard the title of this song last summer, I dismissed it as a summertime possibility thinking that it was a Christmas song. Boy was I wrong!
This is a Springtime song all about Lilies of the Valley. They are what the metaphoric title is speaking of.
What’s fun, is that the song has a “choral” quality to it, and so I kept the guitar in it’s stand and used a glockenspiel (or mini-xylophone) to play. I only use three notes for the song: A E and D. So if you have one of these, grab it and play along! Doesn’t matter if you don’t know the notes, just follow the colors.
And here are the lyrics in case you want to sing along:
White Coral Bells along a Slender Stalk Lillie of the Valley decorate my walk. Oh, don’t you wish that you could hear them ring? That will only happen when the Fairies sing.Simple and lovely! Enjoy and hopefully, before we know it, we’ll see some flowers blooming around here, too!

My friend was singing this to me the other day. I hadn’t heard of it; our grade school did use it. She wants to do a round with me 🙂 I am happy to have found your site. Do you know if this could be played on a lap harp (this instrument might be called something else). The sheet music slides under the cords. Again, thank you.
The words I learned, in the 1940s, are just a little bit different:
White coral bells, upon a slender stalk,
Lilies of the valley deck my garden walk.
Oh how I wish that I could hear them ring,
That will happen only when the fairies sing.
Thanks, this is a lovely round!
I learned the song from my grandmother and my mother with the same wording that Jane wrote — Lilies of the valley deck my garden walk. Such a lovely song! Thanks for the reminder!
