Well hello and happy Tuesday!
I hope your week is off to a great start. I’m excited to share this week’s video with you. It’s a song that I wrote for my album Every Day’s Your Birthday and it’s called “Let’s Go Home”.
I’d had the idea for this song for a while. I wanted to write a song about going home that one would sing with thier family while they walked, or drove home. I guess it was a little inspired by “Sing Your Way Home” now that I think about it.
So, I had the idea, but I had only thought of it here and there. And then, one day, I sat down and wrote the whole thing – lyrics, melody, chorus, everything – all in about 30 minutes. Which was a total shock because some of the songs on that album I’d been living with for YEARS and was even editing and writing lyrics on the final day of recording.
But this one just sort of came right to me. A little country ditty. 🙂 On the album we we really captured it with a little bit of fiddle thrown in. Today, I’ve just got it for you in my acoustic style. The chorus is easy to sing along to. And the song takes us through the end-of-day stages: going home, what we’ll do when we get home (hug your family, curl up in your Daddy’s chair) and then going to bed.
I’ll put the full lyrics at the end of this post in case you’d like to learn them to sing along!
And friends: it’s The National Association for the Education of Young Children’s (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child!! #WeekOfTheYoungChild #WOYC19
If you want to join in the fun, here’s the list of daily themes for the week as explained on the NAEYC website:
Music Monday
NAEYC’s 2019 WOYC™ kicks off with Music Monday on April 8! When children sing, dance, and listen to music, they develop their language and early literacy skills while being active and encouraging movement. Make up and record your own unique version of a song or write your own, and share it on NAEYC’s Facebook WOYC event page or post to Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #woyc19.
Tasty Tuesday
On April 9, focus on healthy eating and fitness at home and school with Tasty Tuesday! This fun, food-themed day is about more than just cheese and crackers. Cooking together connects math with literacy skills, science, and more. With the rise in childhood obesity, you can encourage healthy nutrition and fitness habits at home and in the classroom. Create your own healthy snacks and share the recipes and photos of your creations on NAEYC’s Facebook WOYC event page or post to Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #woyc19.
Work Together Wednesday
NAEYC’s 2019 WOYC™ rolls along on April 10 with Work Together Wednesday! When children build together they explore math and science concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills. Children can use any building material—from a fort of branches on the playground to a block city in the classroom, or a hideaway made from couch pillows at home. Build and share pictures of children’s creations on NAEYC’s Facebook WOYC event page or post to Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #woyc19.
Artsy Thursday
Think, problem solve, create! NAEYC’s WOYC™ continues on April 11 with Artsy Thursday. Children develop creativity, social skills and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands. On Artsy Thursday celebrate the joy and learning children experience when engaged in creative art making. Use any materials—from crayons to paint, clay to crafts! Create and share photos of your children’s creations on NAEYC’s Facebook WOYC event page or post to Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #woyc19.
Family Friday
WOYC™ wraps up with Family Friday on April 12. Engaging and celebrating families is at the heart of supporting our youngest learners. NAEYC applauds family members’ role as young children’s first and most important teachers. Share pictures and stories about your family on NAEYC’s Facebook WOYC event page or post to Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #woyc19.
So have so much fun celebrating this special week!! And I’ll look forward to seeing you in your inbox next Tuesday!
XOXO

LYRICS for Let’s Go Home
by Miss Nina (Nina Stone)
Day is done. You know I've had so much fun. But now I'm ready to go home. Can't wait to see my whole family. Gonna hug 'em tight when I get home. Let's Go Home Let's Go Home Sun is setting low only one place left to go And you know that place is home. When I get there, gonna curl up in my Daddy's chair. My favorite place at home. Let's go home. Let's go home. Stars are shining bright. Soon it's time to say goodnight. Snuggled in my bed at home. Gonna count my sheep and then fall fast asleep. Tucked in tight at home. Let's go home. Let's go home. Day is done. You know I've had so much fun. But now it's time To go on home.
