I hope your week is off to a great start! This week I have for you a springtime counting song called 5 Little Chickadees.
Ok, so, it doesn’t have to be just for Spring – but because it’s about birds and because I am desperate for a Springtime feeling up here in cold Minnesota, I’m calling it a spring counting song. Lol!
I also like this song because the melody is something a little different than the the usual ones we tend to find these days. You can watch the video below:
BENEFITS OF USING THIS COUTNING SONG/VIDEO
-
NUMBER IDENTIFICATION: In this video I use my fingers to represent the number that I’m singing about, AND I use visual numbers on the screen so children can begin to identify numbers in both ways corresponding to saying each number.
-
SIMPLE SUBTRACTION: In this song we start with five chickadees, and one at at time each chickadee flies away leaving us with one less. So we get to practice the skill of “take away” a.k.a. subtraction!
-
FINE MOTOR SKILLS DEVELOPMENT: Learning to count on our fingers help practice and develop our fine motor skills – developing all those tiny muscles in our hands and fingers. Before we can write with a pen or pencil, we need to develop those muscles!
