Hi there, friends!

As we approach Thanksgiving this week here in the USA, I’m putting a spotlight on sharing this week.

We start teaching this concept early on – both at home and in school. And it is a necessary skill for getting along in those environments. But sharing is the basic foundation skill for getting along with the whole world! It’s the first step in understanding the acts of compromise and tolerance.

Compromise, tolerance and sharing are what the Pilgrims and Native American’s practiced so long ago and what we honor annually during Thanksgiving.

And any effort to make the world (or one’s country) a better place succeeds when Love, Tolerance, Compromise and a spirit of Sharing are present.

And although those concepts and skills are certainly daunting for young children – we can start with, and model, the simpler aspects of sharing.

Raffi’s A Sharing Song, helps to depict the joy of both you and your friend having some of the same thing.  The lyrics are simple, but the feeling behind it is one of openness and joy. So here’s this week’s video, and below it are the lyrics. Enjoy – and Happy Thanksgiving!!

Lyrics to A Sharing Song:
By Raffi from the album Singable Songs for the Very Young

It’s mine but you can have some
With you I’d like to share it
For if I give it to you –
You’ll have some too.

Now if I have a cake to eat;
If I have a tasty treat;
If you come to me and ask
I’ll give some to you!

It’s mine but you can have some
With you I’d like to share it
For if I give it to you –
You’ll have some too.

And if I have a book to read;
If I have a block you need;
If you come to me and ask
I’ll give some to you!

It’s mine but you can have some
With you I’d like to share it
For if I give it to you –
You’ll have some too.
