So here it is, not just a couple of days from Piper’s first birthday (!!!) but the anniversary of my 72 hour labor, and horrendous hospital stay.

It’s, actually, a lot to process.  And there certainly hadn’t been time to do that right after she was born!

I’m sure I’m not the only mother to come around to the first birthday of her first baby and feel the dichotomy of elation for the birthday of this amazing, sassy little ball of love and light and a deep anger and grief in relation to the trauma and post-partum experience. (Piper was in the NICU and although completely healthy and passed all tests within the first 48 hours, she was kept there – we were separate – the whole of my stay . Which was long to due the emergency C Section).

So….I’ve decided to take some of my own advice.  “When I’m feeling angry, and every thing’s gone wrong, I want to sing, and Angry Song!”   The best way to deal with our emotions is to, well, feel them.  So – why not sing my angry song?  And why not share it with you, too?! So……. I edited the live version of the Angry Song from the Miss Nina & The Jumping Jacks gig at the Brooklyn Public Library from this past December.

As you’ll see and hear from the song – sometimes feeling our anger can get to be even a little fun.  And presto – catharsis!

We are so in-love with our little Piper – her joy and light far outshine the experience of her birth. But one can’t help but feel reflective at the first birthday.  I’m sure you can relate! (Feel free to leave a comment below, if you’d like!)

Hope you enjoy the video.  It’s a great opportunity to discuss anger with your children and how to deal with our angry feelings without hurting others or ourselves.

Wishing you a wonderful week!  xoxo
