I am SUPER DUPER EXCITED about! THIS WEEK’S VIDEO: COLORS OF YOU – A Love Song for Kids (Color Idioms)
Before we get to it I just want to say YAY!! We had our first, awesome Fri-YAY on Facebook last week and it was FUN!! Thanks for tuning in! We’ll be doing it every Friday on Facebook. (Scroll down this email to get those details.) And thank you to those of you who have participated in my survey ( https://www.surveymonkey.
And now to this week’s video: Colors Of You – A Love Song for Kids:
This is a song from my 2016 album Every Day’s Your Birthday that I have been wanting to make for a LONG time! It’s a sweet little song in which I use color idioms to express my love (in this case, to Piper!) and also to say/demonstrate that I love all of “her colors”: meaning all of her emotions, feelings and thoughts. Bad mood or good mood, feeling angry or feeling silly – I Love her.
HERE ARE THE LEARNING CONCEPTS IN THIS VIDEO:
- COLORS: For your littlest learners you can use this song to focus on simple color identification. For older kids you can start talking about color idioms, similes and metaphors!
- EMOTIONS & SELF ACCEPTANCE: As I stated above, the overall message of the song is that “I love all the colors of you – red, green, yellow, orange, purple, and blue.” And you’ll see Piper demonstrate our interpretation of those color-emotions. It’s a great jumping off point to talk about feelings, that all feelings are okay to have, and that we are loveable even when feeling a “negative” emotion.
- VALENTINE’S DAY: Here in the USA Valentine’s Day has been a day we celebrate in school since I was a little girl (and I’m sure before that too). This song and video can be part of your Valentine’s Day unit or theme. If you’re not in the USA, this song and video can be used in support of any unit focusing on love, kindness and/or feelings and emotions.
Meet me on my Facebook Page every Friday in February at 12 pm EST / 11 am CST / 9 am PST for a little Dance Break!
February sometimes starts to feel looooong for me, even though it’s the shortest month. And I miss my FB Lives with you! So we’re gonna meet on Fridays, on Facebook for just a couple of Miss Nina Movement Songs. Kind of like a livestream Brain Break! It’ll be about 10-15 minutes. Five minutes to gather, and then we’ll move to two Miss Nina Dance/Movement songs. WOOHOO!!! We’ll turn a regular Friday into a Fri-YAY!!!
Enjoy today’s video! Feel free to use it in your classes, at home and/or share it with anyone who is interested!
I look forward to “seeing” you online on Friday!
Have a great week!
XOXO

LYRICS:
Colors of You by Miss Nina / Nina Stone – Copyright 2016
From the album: Every Day’s Your Birthday by Miss Nina & The Jumping Jacks
Verse:
You caught me red handed
Like a bolt from the blue
showing my true colors
Sayin’ that I love you.
Just being honest.
Won’t tell white lies.
you’re my number one, not to be outdone
blue ribbon, first prize.
Chorus:
*It’s a Red Letter day. I feel green-lighted to say
that I love all the colors of you
red, green, yellow, orange, purple and blue.
Verse:
Won’t be yellow bellied.
Gonna say what I think
Oh, when I am with you
I’m tickled pink
Chorus:
*But it’s a horse of a different color If you don’t agree.
And I’d be so blue, to find out you
feel differently
Verse:
But from the blush in your cheek now,
That pretty pink hue…
I can see clearly that you do love me too!
Chorus:
*Oh, it’s a Red Letter day. I feel green-lighted to say
that I love all the colors of you
red, green, yellow, orange, purple and blue…
Candy apple, cantaloupe and honeydew,
Periwinkle, chartreuse and fuschia, too!
I love you. I love you.
Every single color and every hue.
I love you.
