And now for this week’s video:
HOW DO DINOSAURS SAY GOODNIGHT!
This book song, like most of my others, grew right out of my preschool classroom at the request of a young student who’d already enjoyed many of by book songs during Snack n’ Storytime! She loved this book and asked me to make it into a song. So I did!
I recorded it for my album Sha Doo Be Doop and you can find it on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and most other online outlets.
I like to make books and music experiences interactive. With this book, I would ask the children to answer each question the book asks about when a dinosaur says goodnight: “Does a dinosaur slam his tail and pout?” “No!”
That NO became part of this song – as well as it’s chorus! And Piper and I had A LOT Of fun with it in this video. 😄

The benefits of book songs are far reaching: observing the direction the pages turn, that symbols and pictures on a page represent a story, the depiction of facial expressions and emotions – are all pre-reading skills!
And book songs/interactive reading helps engage children of all learning styles and modalities. For some children sitting still is really challenging – so if they can dance and sing to a book and still interact with it – all the better!
