Are you ready? I’ve got The ULTIMATE movement activity for kids this week: SPINNING STATUES!
This week’s video is a song from my 2009 album Singing & Dancing Together and it’s based on an old backyard game I used to play with my sisters and cousins called Swinging Statues. We played it when we were in grade school, so I made a musical, preschool version of it!
EARLY LEARNING CONCEPTS & BENEFITS CHILDREN WILL GET FROM THIS VIDEO:
- BODY CONTROL: Little ones will have to practice controlling the tempo at which they spin, stopping their bodies when I say FREEZE, dancing to the tempo of the music on the dance section, and then stopping to spin again! It’s a lot – but it’s great practice!
- TEMPO: This song starts very slow and gradually increases in speed. Each musical dance section matches the new tempo, so the little ones experience this in their bodies. And each musical dance section is a different STYLE of music. A great jumping off point if you want to explore musical styles and genres with kids.
- FITNESS: It’s a gross motor movement song! A great “Brain Break” if you need one. It gets the wiggles and the giggles out, for sure, and will raise/change the energy of a group if you’re feeling sluggish or bored and need a pick-me-up. Hearts will be pumping by the end….and you may find yourself a little bit dizzy, too!
Feel free to use this video and/or song at home or in your classes and daycare centers – and please SHARE with anyone who you think might find it useful. The link to share is: https://youtu.be/W9b4bVtkghQ
