BRRRRRR!! IT’S COLD OUT THERE! LET’S WARM UP WITH TEDDY BEAR!
Holy cow – it’s cold EVERYWHERE!! I’m writing to you from -20 degrees in MN. It’s so cold, in fact, that somehow it is affecting the internet/my internet connection! You are receiving this email a few hours later than usual because all tasks relating to the internet are taking four times as long right now – my apologies!
But now that it’s ready – here it is! Let’s get everyone warmed up by moving along to this week’s video!
THIS WEEK’S VIDEO IS…
TEDDY BEAR, TEDDY BEAR TURN AROUND!
You may remember this one from your old jump-roping days on the playground, or you may already use this one in the classroom. It is SO FUN to move along too! I changed just a couple of lines so that we get our bodies moving a little bit more… you’ll see!
And this week I demonstrate how to move along if you’re sitting in a chair AND if you’re able to stand up. I know that many of my friends watch me while sitting in their chair – maybe it’s a wheelchair or maybe due to Covid restrictions they have to stay in a seat. Either way I wanted to demonstrate how one can move along from that position if they need to.
EARLY LEARNING CONCEPTS CHILDREN WILL GET FROM THIS VIDEO…
- DIRECTION FOLLOWING: Learning to listen and follow directions is a skill that takes practice! With songs like Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear that are all about instructions and how to move, little ones get to practice listening and then doing what the words say.
- SPEECH DEVELOPMENT: This classic rhyme has a steady, fun rhythm and is easily learned and repeated. Rhythm, rhyme and repetition are key for speech development. Even just patterning the rhythm with vocal sounds – even if they cannot say the words yet – is a wonderful, huge step for brain and speech development.
- FITNESS: It’s a gross motor movement song! If sitting, we still can stretch and move our upper bodies with large motions that get our blood pumping. And if you’re able to stand up, turn around, jump and dance with me, your heart will definitely be pumping after doing this three times in a row! (Especially if you try to say it and move at the same time!)
