In the Mommy-and-Me-Preschool-Readiness class I used to teach, I often had a bird theme in the classroom as we rolled into Thanksgiving. The ideas of Gratitude or the subject of the Pilgrims are both a bit beyond a toddler’s grasp! But birds? Birds they understood. Ducks, chicken, and of course, Turkeys!
So in trying to find a Thanksgiving song to do this week, without repeating myself from previous years, I reached into my “bird song” archive (in my mind!) and recalled The Dickey Bird song. I decided we’d do it this week and use movement scarves. And then on a whim decided to change the Dickey Birds into Turkeys who run, rather than fly away. What the heck!
If you don’t have movement scarves, just grab a couple of paper towels, or you could even get crafty with a couple of brown paper lunch bags and make some Turkey puppets.
Enjoy the song, and keep watching after I finish because I decided to throw in one extra song for old times sake! 🙂
