NEED TO GET THE WIGGLES OUT? I’VE GOT JUST THE SONG FOR YOU!
So, under the most normal of circumstances, kids sometimes have extra energy that they just need to burn off. We all know this. It’s why “Brain Breaks” – little dance breaks during school/class – have become a regular part of our school days.
Well – it’s been quite a year. The Miss Nina community is a global one and we’ve all been affected by Covid-19. On top of that, today in the USA it’s Election Day and tensions and stress are running even higher than they have been. Our little ones – though possibly oblivious to it all – definitely FEEL what we’re feeling. And with no way to put it to words or process it, they (and YOU) may be experiencing it as A LOT of EXTRA ENERGY! So:
THIS WEEK’S VIDEO IS…
I didn’t pick this song today simply for a tension release – although it certainly will be! The idea of this activity was born when I was teaching my 1.5 – 2 year olds in the preschool and it was time to start talking about Thanksgiving. As the actual history of the holiday was way too much to grasp – we often focused mostly on family. And Turkey. 🙂 But I wanted to break it down and find some very basic concepts for them to start working on/integrating – and so we’d spend some time working on Together and Apart – and talking about Togetherness for the Holidays.
I’d found a version of this song on YouTube by Rockin’ Rainbow – and using the same idea of the tune of London Bridge to move our bodies Together and Apart – I created a (seriously AWESOME) hip-hop track to make it more, well, me. 🙂 And it proves to be a hit every time I do it in class, performances and online!
HERE ARE THE EARLY LEARNING CONCEPTS & EXPERIENCES CHILDREN WILL GET FROM THIS VIDEO…
- Children will experience, embody and therefore LEARN the concepts of Together and Apart by doing the motions with their feet and hands and repeating the words with me. If they are not yet speaking, this will help with speech development!
- Without knowing it, they will be learning and practicing Jumping Jacks! It takes some coordination – but this is the foundation.
- Fitness! This song gets the heart rate up, gets the body moving and truly GETS THE WIGGLES OUT! It’s a big energy release and the perfect Brain Break. They’ll be ready to sit down and focus after this one!
